Aardbeien en ananassen zijn schijnvruchten (accessory fruit).

In 1893 besliste het Amerikaanse Hooggerechtshof in het proces Nix vs Hedden dat de vrucht van de tomaat wettelijk als groente (en niet als fruit) moet worden beschouwd. Het proces was aangespannen in verband met de verschillende belastingtarieven die golden voor groente en fruit.[1]

Welja, het is vrij duidelijk dat er 2 definities zijn voor groente en fruit: de botanische en de culinaire. De onderverdeling in de competitie is duidelijk gemaakt op basis van de culinaire definitie, maar rabarber staat verkeerd geklasseerd onder groente, terwijl het culinair gezien fruit is.

Dit kan zo niet verder! Revolutie!

En hoe zit het in andere landen? Is het overal dan zo dat een tomaat een groente is? En idd, hoe is het officieel met rabarber? Ik vind rabarber een fruit en tomaat een groente.
